Chargers get back in the win column

LINDEN — North Montgomery picked up its second win of the season in boys’ basketball on Saturday afternoon with a dominating second half to down Attica 58-37.

Freshman Jarrod Kirsch could not be stopped from behind the 3-point arc hitting seven threes and scored a career high 26 points which led all scorers in the game. Gabe Laws ended with nine points, Jamyson Roche and Jakob Kirsch both added in seven points. Antonio Jerkins led the Red Ramblers with 15 points while Zeb Shonkwiler ended with 14. “Our kids have been working really hard and this was just a great win for us,” North Montgomery coach Chad Arnold said. “To see all of the hard work pay off was great to see and it was a win that we needed.”

Kirsch led the way in the scoring column, but many other players contributed for the Chargers (2-8) in the win. Jarrod Kirsch, Roche, and Laws all received praise from Arnold after the game.

“Jamyson was tough for us and he always knew what was going on out there,” he said. “He’s a very smart player and is able to pick up things quickly. Jarrod can just flat out shoot the basketball, and when you can shoot it as well as he can, guys will find you. Gabe really understand his role out there and does it well. He does a little bit of everything out there for us.”

The Chargers came in averaging just 37 points per game, but were able to score that many points in just the second half, including 23 points in the fourth quarter. In their last two games Arnold has seen his offense find its rhythm. He knows that will have to continue going forward.

“We’ve taken care of the ball and have started to hit some shots in these last two game,” he said. “Our defense will have to continue to get better and try to hold our opponents in the 40s if we want to have success.”

The Chargers do have a difficult part of their schedule coming up with games against Greencastle, Benton Central, Danville, and Crawfordsville with three of those games coming on the road. First up will be the Tiger Cubs on Tuesday.
