Area boys teams find out post-season path

All four area boys basketball teams now know their path to a sectional title as the IHSAA held their annual state tournament pairings show on Sunday. Let’s take a look at the brackets for Fountain Central, Southmont, North Montgomery and Crawfordsville.

Class 2A Sectional 38 at Western Boone

The Mustangs will make the relatively short trip to WeBo for the Class 2A Sectional 38 tournament. The Mustangs are one of six teams in the bracket along with Seeger, Clinton Prairie, Rossville, Carroll, and host WeBo.

Fountain Central drew Seeger in the first round and will take on the Patriots on Tuesday night in game two which is scheduled to begin around 7:30.

Earlier this season the Patriots used a 28-point fourth quarter to come from behind to defeat the Mustangs 56-52, so the Mustangs will be looking for a little revenge when the two WRC foes match up once again.

Game one on Tuesday (3/1) will feature host Webo taking on Clinton Prairie with the winner playing Rossville, who got the bye, Friday night in the first semi-final.

Currently 18-1 Carroll awaits the winner between the Mustangs and the Patriots in the second semi-final on Friday night.

Class 2A Sectional 43 at South Putnam

On the heels of having one of the best years in school history and clinching their first Sagamore Conference title in school history, the Southmont Mounties will make the trip to South Putnam to compete in the Class 2A Sectional 43.

The seven team sectional along with the Mounties features, host South Putnam, North Putnam, Cloverdale, Cascade, Parke Heritage, and Riverton Parke.

Southmont will play Riverton Parke in the first game on Wednesday night (3/2) at 6 p.m. Earlier this season the Mounties gave up a season low 26 points in what a dominating 58-26 victory.

If the Mounties are victorious against the Panthers yet again, they’ll likely run into the Cougars of North Putnam who face Cascade in the second game on Wednesday. The Mounties do have a victory against the Cougars, but that came way back in the first game of the season in a 55-49 win. Since then, the Cougars have lost just two games as they hold a record currently of 17-3.

On the top half of the bracket the host Eagles got the bye and will play the winner between Parke Heritage and Cloverdale.

Southmont is seeking its first sectional title since the 1993-94 season.

Class 3A Sectional 25 at Frankfort

Both Crawfordsville and North Montgomery will compete in the Class 3A Sectional 25 at Frankfort.

The seven team sectional features Danville, Monrovia, host Frankfort, Greencastle, Tri-West to go along with both the Athenians and Chargers.

The Athenians will get things started on Tuesday night in game one as they will get a re-match with the Bruins. Back on Feb. 11 both teams shot the ball poorly but it was CHS who would come out on top with a 41-36 victory.

North Montgomery received the lone bye and will play the winner between the Athenians and Bruins on Friday night. Montgomery county could potentially see the Chargers and the Athenians meet up for a third time this season.

In the bottom half of the bracket, Danville will match up with Greencastle and the host Hotdogs will square off with Monrovia.

Crawfordsville will be looking for its first sectional since the 2013-2014 season while North Montgomery is in search of its first sectional crown since the 2008-09 season.
