All four local girls’ basketball teams learned their match-ups for the Indiana High School Athletic Association state tournament that begins next week. Fountain Central In the Class 2A Sectional at Sheridan, Fountain Central received a bye and will play the winner of Sheridan (7-12) and Seeger (17-3) in the second semi-final on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The Mustangs are 4-15 on the season, and have lost to the Patriots twice. Seeger beat Fountain Central 58-13 in December and 65-18 in early January. On the other side of the bracket, Clinton Prairie (18-2) and Central Catholic (14-7) play in the first quarterfinal, and the winner will play Rossville (10-11). Fountain Central also has a 65-16 loss to Gophers. The Knights have the highest Sagarin rankings in the sectional with 68.06, followed by Clinton Prairie and Seeger. Fountain Central is sixth. Fountain Central last won a girls’ basketball sectional in 2015. Southmont In the Class 2A Sectional at Cloverdale, Southmont received the bye and will play the winner of Riverton Parke (2-18) and Parke Heritage (9-13) in the second semi-final on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The Mounties are currently 12-7 and ride a six-game win streak into a trio of games this week against Covington, Seeger, and Lebanon. Southmont beat Parke Heritage 58-35 in early December and Riverton Parke 54-36 in early January. On the other side of the bracket, North Putnam (11-11) and Cloverdale (9-13) will play in the first quarterfinal, and the winner will play South Putnam (16-5). Southmont owns a 42-37 win over the Cougars, and a 61-41 loss to the Eagles, and have not played Cloverdale. South Putnam has the highest Sagarin rankings with a 66.26, while Southmont is third with a rating of 49.93. South Putnam beat North Putnam 69-56 in their only regular season meeting. North Putnam and Cloverdale split a pair of regular season meetings, while Parke Heritage beat Riverton Parke twice. Southmont last won a girls’ basketball sectional in 2014. Crawfordsville and North Montgomery In the Class 3A Sectional at Danville, North Montgomery opens the tournament against Frankfort on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. The Chargers are 9-12 on the season, while the Hot Dogs are 2-18. North Montgomery beat Frankfort 51-34 in November. The winner will play Greencastle (8-12) in the first semifinal on Friday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. North Montgomery, who is on a seven-game losing streak and finished the regular season on Friday against Western Boone, fell to the Tiger Cubs 62-41 earlier this month. Crawfordsville (4-16) will play Danville (16-5) on Wednesday, Feb. 5, followed by Monrovia (8-12) and Tri-West (16-4) in the third quarterfinal game. The Athenians fell to the Warriors 80-46 in late November. Danville, who has won three-straight sectional titles, has the highest Sagarin rankings with an 82.39, followed by Tri-West and Greencastle. North Montgomery is fifth and Crawfordsville sixth. Crawfordsville won its only girls’ basketball sectional in 2009, while North Montgomery last won in 2007.
