
Wabash took an early 7-4 lead over Carroll University Saturday afternoon and never trailed again to capture the 2019 Nicholas Investments Thanksgiving Tournament championship with an 86-78 victory over the host Pioneers. Jack Davidson earned tournament MVP honors and was joined on the all-tournament team by Harrison Hallstrom. Davidson finished with a game-high 23 points in the title game. Hallstrom scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Tyler Watson gave 14th-ranked Wabash (3-1) the 7-4 lead with a jumper in the paint four minutes into the contest. Free throws from Hallstrom along with a layup and another from Jayden Edwards stretched the lead to 13-6. Davidson added a three-point basket to provide a 10-point lead at 16-6 with 13:35 remaining in the first half. The lead jumped to 12 points before Carroll (5-1) began to whittle away at the Wabash advantage. Four free throws by Blake Williams trimmed the Little Giants' lead to 20-15. The Pioneers continued their scoring run, eventually tying the score at 22-22. Davidson ended the Carroll run with a three-point basket to start a 15-4 run providing an 11-point lead at 37-26 before taking a 44-32 advantage to the locker room at halftime. Carroll drew to within seven points early in the second period before Wabash expanded the margin back to double digits for the remainder of the half until a three-pointer in the final 16 seconds provide the final eight-point margin of victory for the Little Giants. Wabash shot 28-of-57 from the field for 49.1 percent and connected on 8-of-24 three-point tries. The Little Giants also made the most of their misses, corralling 12 offensive rebounds to score 17 second-chance points. Carroll shot the ball well, hitting 26-of-48 attempts for 54.2 percent. Wabash limited second-chance opportunities for the Pioneers by limiting the home team to only two offensive rebounds. Watson joined Davidson and Hallstrom in double-digit scoring with 11 points. Ahmoni Jones scored 10 points. Kellen Schneider finished with nine points and seven rebounds. Four Pioneers scored in double figures led by Charlie Soule with 20 points. Nick Penny scored 16 points. Ryan Clarey chipped in 13 points and Williams added 10. Wabash will play host to Mount St. Joseph University Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at Chadwick Court.
