BBB: North rolls at Frankfort

FRANKFORT — North Montgomery dominated the fourth quarter against Sagamore Conference rival Frankfort to defeat the Hot Dogs 60-47. The Chargers held the Hot Dogs scoreless for the last 6:30 of the final stanza. Frankfort only connected on two of their nine shots in the quarter. Meanwhile the North Montgomery offense opened up and scored 18 points in the quarter. The Hot Dogs scored five. Charger coach Andrew Evertts would like to can the fourth quarter after watching his team dominate the Hot Dogs by hitting six-of-seven shots from the field and six-of-seven free throws during the big run. “We held our composure,” Evertts said. “We then made the plays in the fourth quarter when it mattered and that was nice to see from our guys.” Frankfort, who has now lost 17 straight games, would not go away. In fact, they led after the first quarter 17-16. The Hot Dogs, who were celebrating Winter Homecoming, came out of the gate fast by hitting eight-out-of-11 shots including three treys. The quick start by the home team and sloppy play was the reason the Chargers struggled at the start. “We had told the kids that Frankfort would come out strong and they did,” Evertts said. “I did not think we played very well but we withstood their runs.” The two teams battled evenly in the second quarter and North Montgomery took a 27-26 lead at intermission. Frankfort outscored the Chargers 16-15 to knot the score heading into the deciding final quarter. The Chargers were led in scoring by junior Preston Shaw’s 16 points followed by junior Kade Kobel’s 15 points. Nine Chargers scored in the contest. North Montgomery also got good play from their two post players, senior Conner Cain and junior Jack Thompson who combined for 14 points. Thompson hit some key buckets in the final quarter while scoring all eight of his points in the second half. Frankfort’s junior Trey Frazier led all scorers with 19 points. Evertts complimented the Hot Dogs after the game. “Hats off to (Frankfort). They played exceptionally hard and played well offensively.” North Montgomery travels to North Putnam for a 7 p.m. Tuesday game. Frankfort plays at Hamilton Heights tonight.
