POSTPONED — Bitter cold cancels school, postpones various sporting events including girls basketball

Due to the weather, the girls basketball sectional at Southmont was postponed Tuesday. Crawfordsville and Southmont scheduled for 6 p.m. and Benton Central and Greencastle scheduled for 7:30 p.m. have been rescheduled for Thursday evening at the same times. The games will not be played Wednesday due to bitter cold temperatures canceling schools throughout the area. The rest of the schedule will remain in place as of now. The winner of Crawfordsville and Southmont will play Lebanon at 6 p.m. Friday, while the winner of Benton Central and Greencastle will play Lebanon at 7:30 p.m. Winners of Friday’s semi-finals games will play in the championship at 7 p.m. Saturday. If lingering weather prevents Thursday’s games from being played, those games would be pushed to Friday, the semi-final games to Saturday and the championship game to Monday. Fountain Central was scheduled to play in the opening round of the girls sectional at Lafayette Central Catholic today and that has been postponed. The Mustangs will now play Clinton Prairie on at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. With a win, the Mustangs will play the winner of Covington and Seeger at 7:30 p.m. Friday. With the postponement of the girls sectional at Southmont, the Mounties’ home boys basketball game originally scheduled for Thursday against Tri-West has been postponed. A new date has not been selected. Crawfordsville is set to host the preliminary rounds for the IHSAA girls swim sectional 5:30 p.m. Thursday. If lingering weather prevents that from taking place, the prelims will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Friday with the finals continuing as scheduled Saturday with diving at 9 a.m. and the swimming finals at 1 p.m. Check the Journal Review out on Twitter @JR_Sports for more updates throughout the week.
