FRANKFORT — You could hear the noise from outside the building. Crawfordsville’s girls capped their regular season with a 59-56 win over Frankfort, and the celebration inside the Athenians locker room was monumental. Trailing 44-36 early in the fourth quarter, Crawfordsville went on an 18-0 to take the lead. They were 16-of-20 from the free-throw in the fourth quarter alone, as they win their first Sagamore Conference game in the high school history of nearly every player in a blue uniform. The last conference regular season win came in 2016, also against the Hot Dogs. advertisement “I’m really, really proud of everybody,” Athenians coach Tony Bean said “Every person we brought in was ready, and every person that came in contributed. Those players off the bench filled a gap. Without them, we would have had no chance.” One of the leaders for Crawfordsville was Shea Williamson. The freshman had a career-best 17 points. She was also 10-of-12 from the line, with a 7-of-8 free throw performance in the final quarter. “I felt really confident going to the line,” Williamson said. “My teammates are great – they got the ball to the open shooters. This is what we do in practice – our team confidence just got better and better as the game went on.” Lauren Kellerman, Crawfordsville’s leading scorer on the season at just under 14 points a game, finished with 20. “Our confidence just grew as the game went on,” the junior said. “What was so great was that it was the whole team. The girls off the bench hit big shots. Everybody did a great job.” Williamson and Kellerman hit big free throws down the stretch, but so did Olivia Reed, who also had a big fourth-quarter steal. Olivia Barnett also hit a free throw down the stretch, and had two big late rebounds. Peyton Sinnet scored all five of her game points in that stretch, and pulled down two boards. Overall, the Athenians were 17-of-51 from the field, 5-of-16 from deep and 20-of-31 from the line. Kellerman led her squad with six boards, and Addie Laskowski grabbed five. The Hot Dogs, who fall to 8-15 overall and 1-6 in the league. They were led by Kimberlee Kingma, who had 29 points and 23 rebounds. Both teams start sectional action next Tuesday. The Hot Dogs will play Maconoquah at home and the Athenians play the host Mounties at Southmont.
