Athenians end season with loss to Greencastle

Greencastle got off to a quick start and never let up in a 54-36 win over Crawfordsville in the IHSAA Sectional Semifinal at Lebanon High School on Friday.

It was a tough game throughout for the Athenians, but shooting seemed to be especially difficult against the Tiger Cubs.

Senior Jack Sommer led Crawfordsville with 16 points in his final high school game while Cameron Harris finished his high school career scoring 10 points.

Greencastles Colin York finished with 36 points, including 10-of-11 shooting from 2-point range and 4-of-6 from 3-point range.

Both teams had their advantage rebounding throughout the game, with the Tiger Cubs having 26 and Crawfordsville having 25. Greencastle held the Athenians to only two rebounds in the second quarter, but they recovered with nine in the final period.

The Athenians got into foul trouble early, as they racked up eight in the first half. They ended up getting to nine in the second. That in itself created too many chances for Greencastle to score.

Jesse Johnson-Hall is only a freshman, but he played throughout the game, being on the top end of minutes played, so Pierce looks forward to seeing him come out and work hard next year.
