NEW MARKET — Southmont’s seniors gave themselves a great Senior Night with a 59-38 win over Covington on Tuesday.
Kasey Burton, Reagan Case and Marlowe McVay combined for 46 points to lead the Mounties (12-9) to a fifth straight win — the best streak since 2004-05.
Burton was 6-of-7 from the free throw line and finished with 22 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Case had 15 points, four assists and three steals, while McVay had eight points, four boards, a block, an assist and a steal.
Lilly Ward grabbed a career-best 14 rebounds.
The Trojans drop to 12-10 with the loss, their last regular season game before sectionals start next week for them against South Vermillion at Central Catholic in Class 2A action, the same Sectional 38 that Fountain Central plays in.
The Mounties take their five-game streak to Lebanon Friday for the regular season finale before the start of Class 2A Sectional 44 action Tuesday against South Putnam at Cascade.
