LINDEN — North Montgomery girls’ basketball coach Ryan Nuppnau knew his team might have a letdown for Tuesday’s game against Greencastle after winning the Montgomery County title in its last outing on Thursday.
Coach Nuppnau’s worst nightmare came to fruition as the visiting Tiger Cubs (11-7) raced out to a 19-7 lead after the first eight minutes of play and never looked back on its way to a 63-35 victory over the Chargers (8-9).
Greencastle hit 7 of 11 shots from the floor in the opening quarter to race to its big lead and then followed that up with an 8 of 16 effort in the second quarter on its way to a 39-15 halftime lead.
The loss put a bit of a damper on the Senior Night activities for the trio of North Montgomery seniors. However the three went out in a blaze of glory as they accounted for 27 of the team’s 35 points. Leading the way was Katherine Sabens who tossed in 14 points. She was followed by Becca Adams who had 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Taylor Dyson added three points.
Greencastle used a balanced attack and were led by Jayln Duff who had 15, while Claire Gillen added 12 and Gracie Smith added 10.
North Montgomery will be back in action on Friday at 6 p.m. as part of a boy-girl doubleheader at Danville.
