DOVER — Everything Western Boone did worked Tuesday night in a girls basketball match-up against Crawfordsville.
The Lady Stars trailed for less than 20 seconds in a 72-28 victory that improved their record to 9-8 on the season and 2-2 in the Sagamore Conference.
Crawfordsville took its only lead of the game at 3-2 on a 3-pointer by Lauren Kellerman, but Western Boone scored the next eight points to grab the lead for good. A Kellerman 3-pointer cut the Athenian deficit to 10-8 with 3:02 left in the first quarter, but Western Boone wouldn’t allow a field goal for the next 10:37 to grab a commanding 39-10 lead.
Western Boone sophomore Madison Jones out-scored the Athenians by herself in the first half 20-10.
The Stars’ defensive pressure forced 18 Crawfordsville turnovers in the first 16 minutes and allowed just 16 shot attempts.
Kellerman had a career-high 16 points for Crawfordsville.
Crawfordsville is back in action on Tuesday against Covington.
