Athenians top Chargers, off to best start since 2009

LINDEN — James Gineris set the tone to start the game while Cameron Harris caught fire in the second half to lead Crawfordsville to a 66-45 victory over rival North Montgomery on Friday night.

Gineris scored 12 of his 19 points in the first half and Harris scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the second half to help the Athenians earn the big county win.

Now Crawfordsville is off to its best start since 2009 — the last time the Athenians began a season 4-1 — and Crawfordsville is 2-0 in the Sagamore Conference for the first time since 1996.

Trent Johnson finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Daulton Bridgewater added 12 points.

For North Montgomery Justin Clary made three 3s and led the Chargers (3-4, 0-2 SAC) with 15 points. Caleb Randolph had 12 points and five assists.

The two teams could meet again in the Sugar Creek Classic next month at Southmont. Crawfordsville opens the tournament on Jan. 6 with Western Boone and North Montgomery plays Southmont. First, Crawfordsville is at Seeger at 7:30 p.m. today and North Montgomery is at Covington.
