Crawfordsville overcame a slow start and played a near perfect second half on its way to a 54-38 victory over Greencastle in the season opener for both teams Tuesday night.
Greencastle hit seven of its 10 shots in the first quarter to lead the Athenians 16-11 after the first quarter. The Tiger Cubs stretched the lead to 26-16 late in the second quarter before Crawfordsville whittled it to 27-21 by halftime.
The second half was all Crawfordsville. The Athenians outscored the Tiger Cubs 33-10 in the second half, including 16-3 in the third quarter. Most of that was due to hitting on 12-of-17 shot from the floor and turning the ball over just twice in the final two quarters.
Three starters reached double figure scoring for Crawfordsville. Jack Sommer led the way with 13 points. Cameron Harris added 12 points and James Gineris tossed in 11. Dalton Bridgewater had eight points off the bench and Trent Johnson scored four points with 15 rebounds.
Crawfordsville out-rebounded Greencastle 34-22 and committed just six turnovers.
