NEW MARKET — The Western Boone Lady Stars continued their impressive streak at the Sugar Creek Classic on Saturday night at Southmont. Western Boone won the title with a 73-58 win over the host Mounties, the eighth-straight year the Stars have brought home the trophy.
Southmont was represented on the all-tournament team by Kasey Burton, who scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down 17 rebounds before fouling out.
Reagan Case added 17 points and eight rebounds, while Avery Hess had 11 points and four rebounds.
Southmont is back in action on Nov. 29 at home against Rockville. Western Boone travels to Westfield on Tuesday.
Chargers bounce back, defeat Athenians
NEW MARKET — Just one night after falling behind 34-11 at the end if the first half before losing to Western Boone 64-37 in the opening round of the girls’ Sugar Creek Classic, North Montgomery turned the tables on Crawfordsville and raced to a 31-6 halftime lead and went on to take the consolation game by a 56-35 count Saturday night.
North Montgomery (3-2) led 10-2 and the end of the first quarter and then outscored Crawfordsville 21-4 in the second quarter to put this one out of reach by halftime, leading 31-6.
The Chargers were led by senior Becca Adams as she sank 16 of her game, and tournament, high 27 points in the first half. However on Saturday Adams had a lot of offensive help. Junior Kelsey Sabens had a huge game scoring 15 points and pulling down a game-high nine rebounds. The effort did not surprise her coach.
In addition several other Chargers stepped up.
Trailing 43-11 heading into the final quarter the Athenians (3-3) picked up 24 points to give Crawfordsville something to build on.
Leading the Crawfordsville effort in the fourth quarter was freshman Lauren Kellerman who scored 14 of her team-high 15 points in the final eight minutes. In addition, junior Zoe Walbert added scored eight of her 10 points in the final quarter.
North Montgomery travels to state ranked Fountain Central on Tuesday. Crawfordsville travels to Greencastle on Tuesday.
