Now that the sectional draw has been made for the 2019-2020 tournament it would only be wise to look back at the past history of our county schools.
Of course, Crawfordsville has the most post-season tournaments, titles and games played. Afterall the school has been playing in the postseason since 1911 when it defeated Lebanon for the first boys’ state title 24-17 at Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
It’s hard to believe it’s that time of year again but Sunday was the IHSAA drawing for the Girls State Basketball Tournament.
To be honest the postseason has not been the best of times for the three county teams, especially in the past decade. In fact, despite playing in two different classes and two different sectionals some years the county was able to only come up with one sectional title – that coming in 2014 when Southmo...
As the boys’ basketball season prepares to kick off the second portion of the season following the holiday break eyes are looking toward the 14th Annual Sugar Creek Classic.
I was fortunate enough to be in on some of the first conversations when this event was in the planning stages before it became a reality and the first tournament was played on Dec. 22-23, 2006. Unlike the girls tournament which has been dominated by one t...
Friday night will be another county rivalry game and this time it will be North Montgomery taking on Crawfordsville.
The two rivals will be battling for the 83rd time, three games shy of the number of times North and South have met as they battled for the 86th time two weeks ago. That series has North leading 45-41. The Crawfordsville vs. North series is even closer. The Athenians own a slim 42-40 advantage.

North Montgomery got out of the gate early and went 18-5, 12-9 and 19-5 in its first three year...
We are continuing our journey through the decades of Montgomery County basketball this week.
We have looked at the 1950s and 1960s and this time we move into the 1970s. The 1970s was the end of county basketball as it has been known for decades as North Montgomery and Southmont came into existence in the fall of 1971.
That left two seasons —1969-70 and 1970-71 — and the curtain call for the eight county schools. They did not...
Last time we looked at Crawfordsville High School’s success on the basketball court in the decades of the 1950s. While the Athenians might have been the premiere team of that decade there were plenty of other great teams from the county during the same time frame.
While Crawfordsville led the county with four sectional titles, Waveland was close behind with three.
The Hornets took the sectional crowns in consecutive years be...
